Interviewed by Steve Harmon

The Monk & Kelly show consists of Jonathan Monk & Dianna Kelly, partners in radio and life!

Harmon: I love talking to married morning show couples ... all morning together,  all night ... all the dang time togetherness!

Dianna: Fifteen years together on the show, Sixteen years together as husband and wife. How did we get roped into this gig, anyway?

Jonathan: People thought our answering machine was funny and insisted we turn it into a show. I thought they meant a television show, and I was a little disappointed because I always thought we'd make a great sitcom.

Dianna: Yeah, but a sitcom only takes 28 minutes...you need a lot more time than that to complete a thought!

Jonathan: Thanks a lot, Dianna...but who's typing the answers for Harmon at the keyboard?

Dianna: The person who's already edited out 12 pages of script!!! Actually, we thought it would be great therapy to bring our disagreements on the air with us...because we'd have to make them funny. Or allegedly funny.

Jonathan: Imagine ... going to therapy and getting paid for it!

Dianna: It's amazing, people ask us all the time how we can live and work together, how we'd be able to handle any fights...

Harmon: Hey, how do you two live together and handle any fights?

Dianna: And we say, it's a lot easier than dealing with someone you DON'T see 24/7 ... we have to communicate and get everything out on the table right away.

Jonathan: So if something is bothering one of us, we have to air it out and be honest.

Dianna: And humorous. It's occasionally good show prep, too.

Jonathan: I thought that's why we had the kids.

Dianna: No, we had them so your folks wouldn't pester us for grandkids.  And we thought they'd be able to pay for our retirement in case this radio thing didn't pan out.

Harmon: Are you really married?  You don't have the same last name!

Dianna: You want us to be 'The Monks' on the air?  Anyone familiar with our show will say no!

Jonathan: I just tell 'em the pictures of kids in my wallet came with the wallet ... it's all fake!

Dianna: We really do a family show, despite Jonathan's best efforts...

Jonathan: ...we're topical, local, informative ... from serious stuff to American Idol, or the nation's fixation with home improvement.

Dianna: You only threw in that last part because I asked you to put the electric screwdriver together so I could hang up that shelf. Which you still haven't done.

Jonathan: It's a work in progress.

Dianna: Just like our show!
